Karlin Church of St Cyril and Methodius
In 1850, a collection for the construction of a church for the local district was launched, which was also supported by the then Emperor Ferdinand I and the Empress of Karlion, according to which it is named the district where the church lies – Karlin. Firstly in 1854 the foundation stone was laid in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and his wife Elizabeth. The construction lasted for 9 years and the result is the church of St Cyril and Methodius. This church is 75 meters long and towers reach a height of 78 meters, so the church is one of the largest ecclesiastical buildings in the Czech Republic. His proposal was taken care of by architects Karl Rösner (Prose of the University of Vienna ) and Vojtěch Ignác Ullmann, finally the appointment took place in 1863.
In 2002, the church, as well as the whole of Karlin, was damaged by a devastating flood. The church was then repaired.
